Photovoltaic Trainer

EPH 1 Photovoltaic Trainer

The photovoltaic trainer teaches the basic principles of solar techniques. It is possible to construct a fully functional standalone photovoltaic system with photovoltaic cells, inverter, battery, and load components. The teaching system is modular in design and mounts on a upright tabletop frame. The intensity and angle of the light source is adjustable, enabling basic exercises on the subject of photovoltaics to be completed.

Topics Covered:

  • Measuring the strength of irradiation
  • Characteristics, off-load voltage and short-circuit current of various PV cells
  • Power characteristics and temperature response of various PV cells
  • Series and parallel circuits PV cells
  • Consumer operation in direct or storage mode
  • Inverter operation mode

Equipment:

  • Four (4) Photovoltaic modules with various methods of connection including 2 load potentiometers
  • Load module: 12V bell-type armature motor, halogen lamp, LED & 12V universal socket
  • Storage module: 12V Accumulator (1.2Ah) with 6A fuse and Shottky-diode
  • Data collection sheets for Photo-voltaic Trainer
  • Inverter module: 12V DC to 230V AC / 200W
  • Simulation Software Photo-voltaic PVS 2.00
  • Radiant exposure meter with temperature detection and data logger
  • Evaluation and display software for radiation meter
  • Solar digital multimeter, 3 digit
  • 8 Safety protected connectors, red

Modular Solar Photovoltaic Trainer Trainer - Mobile Photovoltaic Stand

PROFI PV Trainer- Modular Photovoltaic Training Frame & Panels

The PROFI PV Trainer system consists of a collection of modules, each with components for different experimental configurations. The modular panels are placed in the frame and wired with patch cords, as required. The system design enables indoor and outdoor experiments. Indoor exercises are carried out with the optional mobile PV-Module/Light stand. The intensity of the spotlight can be adjusted, while vertical and horizontal angles are modified to simulate seasonal daily curves of the sun. Determination of the characteristic curve for the PV-module also includes influence of slope angle and simulated irradiation & temperature. Since local weather may not be constant, a PV-module simulator is also available. Short circuit current can be adjusted. Commercial grade components are used in the PROFI PV Trainer so it is suitable for Workforce Development and Engineering Education, depending on modules selected. Inverter panels are available for 110VAC and 230VAC.

Some of the exercises possible with the PROFI PV Trainer (List is not all inclusive):

  • Characteristic curve of a diode, respectively a diode series
  • Characteristic curve of a solar module (I/U) and (U/P), MPP
  • Characteristic curve of a solar module (I/U) depending on irradiation
  • Characteristic curve of a solar module (I/U) depending on temperature
  • Power output of a solar module depending on the angle of incidence of the light
  • Simulation: Power output of a solar module depending on the position of the sun (daily & seasonal)
  • Series connection of solar modules
  • Parallel connection of solar modules
  • Series connection of solar modules and shadowing without bypass-diode
  • Series connection of solar modules and shadowing with bypass-diode
  • Line powered operation mode: solar energy is fed via inverter to the local power grid
  • Different constellations of power flowing in the system. Calculation of efficiency (inverter)
  • Stand alone systems DC and AC. Solar charging controller, battery, stand-alone inverter, DC and AC loads. Different constellations of power flowing in the system
  • Integration of outdoor solar module
  • Data Acquisition
